CNF was founded as a Public Benefit Corporation under Californian jurisdiction in 2012 and began to function in 2013. CNF’s sister organization, the Children’s Nutrition Fund of Hungary (GYEA) has been serving children in need since 1993, and is now one of the most recognized and respected civil organizations of the country.

According to surveys, 89% of Hungarians know about GYEA and 94% of those people believe that the fund serves its purposes excellently.

Last GYEA gave lunch to 3000 hungry children on each and every holiday and weekend. In 2012, 80 000 Hungarian families benefited from the donations collected by the fund and 4 000 000 kilograms of food were distributed among children in need.

However, since 2008, the first year of the economic crisis, the amount of the donations has been continously decreasing.

Three years old Levente Kovacs has a middle name. It is Kartal after the name of his village. The children in need of Kartal receive 30 portions of free food each weekend and holiday. Yet even 90 portions would not go amiss; there is growing unemployment in the village. Levente Kartal is one of 40 000 children in Hungary and hundreds of thousands in the Eastern-Central-European region who desperately need help from CNF’s „No Hunger on Holidays” program.

His father is jobless, as are 90% of adults living in his hometown, Hernádvecse, a small village in the North-East of Hungary. Albert, his parents, and his three siblings live on a family allowance of 73 000 forints, around $ 310 a month. It is Albert -a natural musical talent- who is able to ear some extra income by playing his instruments and singing at local village fairs. He is one of the participants of CNF’s sponsorship program, „Talented and Hungry!”
